9th May 2012

Angling Cymru was officially launched last week at The Senedd, Cardiff, by AM Huw Lewis, Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Housing and Angling Cymru's new Chairman Tony Rees MBE.

Huw Lewis, AM

Huw Lewis also made a presentation on behalf of Angling Cymru to two angling coaches who have dedicated their free time over many years to coaching disabled anglers and supporting them in their enjoyment of fishing.

Maureen Smith and Amanda Joseph are coaches with Glamorgan Anglers and have recently undertaken the new Level 2 UKCC Angling Coaching qualification.  Amanda and Maureen are the first female coaches in Wales to achieve the new coaching standard.  Angling Cymru would like to congratulate them on their achievement and thank them for their hard work and dedication to coaching angling.

Angling Cymru would also like to congratulate Harry Jackson, Bob Mayers, Gareth Davies, Stewart Matthews, Douglas Hawkins and Robert Eyles for also being awarded the new UKCC level 2 Angling Coaching qualification.  Well done to everyone and thank you for helping angling raise the standards of coaching in Wales.

Why the change?

The three National Governing Bodies for angling in Wales (WSTAA, WFCA & WFSA) have worked in partnership since 2005 under the umbrella name of The Federation of Welsh Anglers.  During those years the organisation has worked hard to put in place solid governance foundations from which it could grow. Now firmly in its development phase the organisation felt a more modern approach was needed and so the new name and logo was developed to reflect the new image of the organisation.

However this is not just a change of name and logo.  This launch marks the start of a whole host of new initiatives and developments for angling in Wales.  One of the key areas of improvement will be the way in which we communicate with anglers across Wales.  We will make sure that we provide a variety of ways in which anglers can keep in touch with the work we do and also provide anglers with ways of letting us know their concerns, views, opinions and suggestions about their angling in Wales.
